Frequently Asked Questions

What is Girls Helping Girls?
Girls Helping Girls is an international nonprofit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area that partners girls in the United States with girls in schools and community organizations in developing countries to jointly identify problems in their communities and develop social change through micro lending projects to address those issues.

What is the Mission of Girls Helping Girls?
The mission of Girls Helping Girls is to build a global culture of girls consciously collaborating to make a difference. We strive not only to bridge international cultures but, more profoundly, to channel the power harvested from the girls' collaborative service projects to Eradicate Poverty, Increase Access to Education, Improve Health, and – most importantly – Promote Peace.

How Does Girls Helping Girls Work?

First, each sister team (consisting of two separate groups of girls) will receive a specific global issue in September. Then through the months of September-January, each team will not only research their given issue, but also further develop the relations between the two groups. We will help mediate the communication bridge between the sister groups so that they can identify common problems in each of their respective communities. In January, a packet known as the social change toolkit will also be sent out to each sister group. The following months of February-May will then be dedicated to the development of service projects (with the help of the social change toolkit) that relate to the allotted global issue. And although a team identifies a common issue, each group will develop a separate social change project to put into action. All projects and reflections are to be turned in to the Girls Helping Girls Board for review. Certificates of Completion will then be sent in June to acknowledge each of the micro-lending projects that were enacted.
